Money. It makes the world go round and it is the root of all evil, but did you know that this is what gives the gas to scientific research all around the world? Yes, it is true. Research projects don’t run on unicorn wishes and thank the powers that be, because we wouldn’t be able to do research at all.
Here are all the organizations that have dedicated their money, equipment or time to help us out with our goal of going into the forest to spy on wildlife! Click on the images to be taken to the organization’s website.
Finally, the pièce de résistance: the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS).
WCS was the organization to contact Dr. Marcella Kelly about potentially doing research in Makira. They help us get permits, they provide local guides, they ship us (and our equipment) up and down the Antainambalana river and most recently they have posted signs deep within the forest, notifying locals that they are in a protected forest area. Without WCS, we wouldn’t be in Makira.
